Portsea Surf Life Saving Club was formed in 1949 by a group of local residents to protect the lives of swimmers at the notoriously dangerous Portsea Back Beach near Port Phillip Heads in Victoria, Australia. The beach is part of the Pt. Nepean National Park, which is managed by Parks Victoria. Since 1949 members have been responsible for saving over 4,500 lives on our beach. Since then the Club has assisted over 1,500 young men and women to gain the Surf Life Saving Australia's coveted Bronze Medallion. The Bronze Medallion course is conducted every December as the Bronze Camp, with a Cadet Camp being held in January, and a Nipper program during the summer holidays. The club competes in lifesaving carnivals around the coast and in Port Phillip Bay with other Victorian Lifesaving Clubs. Portsea SLSC has conducted many public events such as the Portsea Swim Classic, Pier to Perignon Swim, Portsea Polo, and the Portsea leg of the Uncle Tobys Super Series.
